How to Find a Great InternshipIn my newspaper column for Feb. 8, I describe some of the great internships I've had over the years... and discuss how you, too, can find a perfect internship match. One additional point worth mentioning is that the quality of an internship often comes down to the enthusiasm of the person who is your immediate supervisor. If the person is someone who is really interested in helping you learn -- and wants to see you make a real contribution to the organization -- the internship is likely to be fantastic. But if your supervisor isn't at all interested, the internship could be lacking even if the organization you're working for is terrific. During my second summer interning at the Nasdaq Stock Market, I had the opportunity to work for Nasdaq's Chief Economist -- someone who became a real mentor for me. Because of the interest he took in me, I had the chance to accompany him to a special week-long conference in Palm Springs for the leading entrepreneurs in the nation. Not only did I learn a tremendous amount, but we also had the chance to play grass court tennis every night! One more thing: If anyone reading this post has an internship opportunity to offer, please post a comment below describing the details about the internship and how students can apply. I'll be sure to help spread the word. By Ben Kaplan at Feb 8 2007 - 2:40pm | Jobs and Career | Newspaper Column | Ben Kaplan's blog | login or register to post comments
